Not all of us understand the importance of a good pair of shades. It might look awesome and be cheap, but they might not give you the proper protection that your eyes need. Therefore, I compiled a list of how you can make sure that you choose the best sunglasses to ensure that your eyes remain healthier for longer!
UV is King!
When it comes to knowing how to pick good sunglasses, start with shades marked 100% UV protection or UV400. I always thought that the darker the lens the better the UV protection. This is not the case. These lenses work great for day to day activities as they block the glare from reflected light.
Don’t hesitate to do your research before you buy just any pair of shades.
How should you know if the lenses are actually polarized you may ask? When buying shades, have a look at the tag or sticker through the lens. If you rotate the glasses to a 6o degree angle, and it appears darker you are on the right track!
Polarized lenses are perfect for activities like driving and skiing, because they filter reflective light from different angles. These lenses also make colours appear brighter.
Things to Remember:
- The bigger the better. Consider buying oversized shades. It would reduce UV rays entering the eyes from the side.
- Colour lenses, such as pink or red, don’t offer better protection. Although it can assist in increasing contrast.
- We only get ONE pair of eyes in our lifetime so it’s important that we take good care of them!
